Pre-Cana is the Diocese's marriage preparation course. All engaged couples who choose to be married in the Church must attend a Pre-Cana program before they can be married. Holy Cross hosts two Pre-Cana sessions per year—one in June and one in November—and we are looking for couples who might be interested in participating as presenters to give the Pre-Cana participants a thorough and inclusive program. We utilize 5 or 6 couples having a variety of years of marriage experience; a strong, lived faith experience; and a willingness to share about the blessings and challenges of marriage.
If you are interested or if you have any questions about this volunteer opportunity, please contact the parish office at 663-2244 or via e-mail, email@example.com.
Couples who are thinking about volunteering in the future are urged to make arrangements to stop in and "shadow" a presentation or two to see what it's all about! Please let us know ahead of time if you will be visiting.
Matrimony, or Marriage, like Holy Orders, is a sacrament that consecrates for a particular mission in building up the Church, and that provides grace for accomplishing that mission. This sacrament, seen as a sign of the love uniting Christ and the Church, establishes between the spouses a permanent and exclusive bond, sealed by God. Accordingly, a marriage between baptized persons, validly entered into and consummated, cannot be dissolved. The sacrament confers on them the grace they need for attaining holiness in their married life and for responsible acceptance and upbringing of their children. For a valid marriage, a man and a woman must express their conscious and free consent to a definitive self-giving to the other, excluding none of the essential properties and aims of marriage.
