of Rochester, NY
CYO Athletic programs develop a sense of fair play, cooperation, self-esteem, and self-discipline by providing competitive activities. The program sponsors basketball, soccer, and softball leagues as well as the cheerleading squads which are all coached by CYO volunteers. Annual tournaments are sponsored for each sport as well.

It is our goal to encourage the proper balance of competitveness, teamwork, and sportsmanship which is a reflection of the Catholic values on which our program is based.
Building Teamwork and Character
The Holy Cross Athletic Program provides a full range of basketball and cheerleading opportunities for the youth of the parish, grades 2 through 12. In addition, soccer is offered for grades 3 through 6. See the weekly bulletin, this web page, or the parish Facebook page for information regarding tryouts and schedules, or contact Athletic Director, Carl Masters by email at Champ@rochester.rr.com.
Holy Cross CYO at Its Finest! - Coach Ed DiPonzio
Each year we practice picking up our teammate in practice during the year with our first year 2nd graders. We plant seeds in our athletes to grow in their faith and the sport of basketball to play the right way "The Bomber Way" with sportsmanship, grace and class. Please see the bulletin (pg. 8) which shows Colin Bavibidila, a member of our first 2nd grade team in 2011-12. Colin is now a Holy Cross 6th grade student on Coach Brendan McDaniel's team, lending a hand of sportsmanship not to his teammate, but his opponent at his last game on March 3rd vs Our Lady of Lourdes.
We are very proud of the fact that Colin remembered what he was taught and put it into practice, and we are pretty sure this was not the first time either. Colin will be attending McQuaid Jesuit next year, so our loss is their gain! Colin, you made Holy Cross, your coaches, and your family very proud! Thanks to Daniel DeLucenay for capturing this very special moment as well. Great job Colin!
A Look into our Season – More than just Bomber Basketball, Soccer and Cheering!
Before the start of each basketball season in November, the teams begin their CYO season by attending an opening Mass, followed by a pep rally, pizza party, and dance held in the gym. The evening is attended by our youngest 2nd graders to our eldest high school seniors.
Along with playing games against many other parishes throughout the regular season, Holy Cross holds both the Father Fennessey Christmas Tournament for all our teams in the month of December, along with the annual Don Tryon Memorial High School Basketball tournament held in the month of February.
Our cheerleading teams participate by not only cheering for our teams, but by participating in tournaments throughout the local area, sometimes at high school level tournaments, and even leaving the Rochester area to compete.
Throughout the year you will see many of our teams at a Sunday Mass or a daily 5:20 PM Mass. All attend with their teammates to celebrate an upcoming game or tournament, by taking a few minutes to share in the Eucharist.
