“Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood, or to the consecrated life, there is always the strong and intense prayer of someone: a grandmother, a mother, a father, a community...This is why Jesus said, “ Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest,” that is, God the Father, “to send our laborers into his harvest.” Mt 9:38 Vocations are born in prayer and from prayer; and only through prayer can they persevere and bear fruit.” Pope Francis

“Having the chalice in our home for the week was a very special privilege. We found an honored place for it in our living room and each time we went by it we were reminded to pray for vocations. In the evening, we sat by the chalice and prayed the rosary together - a habit we continue, and we feel sure it strengthened our own vocation.”

Introducing the Traveling Chalice!
Beginning in Advent, our parish began a new program called the “Traveling Chalice.” Every week, families can sign up to take home a special chalice, just like the one that the priest uses for Mass. The family that takes the chalice home for that week will be encouraged to use the opportunity to pray for vocations. You can display it in a prominent spot in your house, keep it on the table at mealtimes, and use it as a way to teach your children the special place that the Mass and the Eucharist has in our faith. I would encourage those who take the Chalice to journal about the experience and share what it was like to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
Prayer for Vocations Continues with The Traveling Chalice
Looking for a wonderful opportunity to pray for vocations? Please call the parish office at 663-2244 or contact Karen Marsh at email@example.com or 621-3111. Reserve a specific week or sign up for the earliest available week. Thank you in advance, and please continue to pray for vocations!
If you have a desire to become more involved in fostering our Christian faith among fellow parishioners, the Faith Enrichment Committee may be the place to start.
This group is a standing committee of the Parish Pastoral Council. It meets five times a year to formulate and establish policies or programs that involve the religious education of the parishioners of Holy Cross. The 13 members of the committee are chosen by the committee and are representatives from S.C.O.R.E., Adult Education, Religious Education, and the Holy Cross School Committee.
